In the UK, 1 in 7 disabled people experience domestic abuse, as opposed to 1 in 20 non-disabled people. In this half hour Dispatches, Sophie Morgan examines why this is the case and speaks to those who have experienced domestic abuse about the struggles they faced in accessing support.

The programme reveals the shocking lack of services for disabled survivors of domestic abuse. Survivors reveal the huge challenges they have faced in accessing support and safe places to stay, and Sophie speaks to those who run the only refuge run by and for disabled survivors. Dispatches also interviewed over 2500 frontline professionals including healthcare workers and police revealing that more than half wouldn’t know which specialist service to refer a disabled person to.
